Did you know… If you have not processed your ownership documents- you won't have the authority to recover your vehicle from impound. The Ownership documents are the title and registration of the vehicle. If you haven’t had the title or registration “put into your name- the state of Kansas does not recognize you as the authorized owner and will not allow the release of a vehicle or any contents of that vehicle to be released to you. The only person who can recover it is the person who is recognized by the state as the owner.
Understand that your signature on the back of the title does not work. It's the person whose name is on the front and the person named in the registration of that vehicle. Some people have been able to have the “owner” come to recover it for them, but most in this situation need to complete the process for title and registration. The long and short of it is…essentially, the purchase of your vehicle is not complete until you finish the process and until then you don’t really “own” it.
This is important information that you need to know.
Stay safe,
