House Keys and the Police Impound.

Another piece of information that you need to know… When you have your vehicle impounded, for instance , arrested, or in an accident, the police typically retain your keys to the vehicle and provide them to the tow company they called out on “rotation”. At some point you realize that your house keys are with your car keys.

Problem is, you can't get any of the keys from impound until you prove ownership and pay the tow bill. Even if they are the only keys you have.

Best advice is- if you should find yourself in this situation, remember to remove the car key from the keyring and provide the officer with only the car key. Keep all the rest of them but give them the single key. This is just a tidbit of information that may make your life easier.

Stay safe
